Building Tomorrow’s Innovators: Robotics and Coding in Dover Classrooms

Thanks to a $6,719.25 grant from SEED, elementary students across the Dover School District are gaining exciting opportunities to explore robotics, programming, and engineering through hands-on learning.

Led by Frances G. Hopkins STEM teacher Tom Pringle, in collaboration with fellow STEM teachers LeighAnn Bauer and Christine Kozlowski, this district-wide initiative will benefit approximately 1,200 students while fostering creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

With SEED's funding, the district purchased Sphero Indi robots and LEGO Education SPIKE robotics kits, providing age-appropriate learning opportunities from kindergarten through fourth grade.

Younger students explore basic coding concepts using screen-free robots, while older students progress to designing, building, and programming increasingly sophisticated creations. Along the way, students learn to experiment, troubleshoot, collaborate, and persevere through challenges.

The initiative also introduces students to technologies used in FIRST LEGO League competitions, potentially opening doors to future competitive robotics opportunities.

Through this investment, SEED is helping inspire the next generation of innovators, engineers, and problem-solvers—one robot at a time!
