Thanks to a SEED Academic Excellence grant, Dover’s elementary students recently enjoyed an exciting, district-wide literacy experience. Librarians Katie Widerstrom (WPS), Rachel Hill (GES), and Nicole Gallagher (FGH) partnered to bring celebrated children’s author Josh Funk to all three of Dover’s elementary schools.
A Shared Literacy Experience for All Dover Elementary Schools
Josh Funk’s visit provided a vibrant, collective learning experience for students across the district. His fast-paced, visual, and interactive presentations captivated young readers as he shared how his story ideas develop into published books, talked about his dual career as an author and software engineer, and emphasized that anyone can be a writer. Younger students helped create characters and act out silly scenarios, while older grades participated in an unplugged coding activity that blended robotics concepts with storytelling. Each session wrapped up with a Q&A and optional book signing, giving students a memorable and inspiring connection to a real author.
SEED is proud to support opportunities that spark curiosity, creativity, and a lifelong love of reading for Dover’s students.
