Teeing Up Opportunity: SEED Receives $2,000 from the David Barrows Adventure Fund
Dover, NH — [September 15, 2025]
SEED has received a $2,000 grant from the David Barrows Adventure Fund to support more hands-on, curiosity-driven learning in Dover’s public schools.
During a recent SEED IT Team golf meetup, we met Wayne Barrows, a friend of our colleague Steve Boyatsis. After hearing about SEED’s mission, Wayne introduced us to his family’s charitable effort, the David Barrows Adventure Fund, and soon arranged a generous $2,000 grant for Dover students.
About the David Barrows Adventure Fund
The Adventure Fund was created in memory of David Barrows, a 22-year-old Exeter resident who tragically passed away in 1986. David was remembered for his charm, humor, kindness, and adventurous spirit. He was a gifted athlete—an avid skier and cyclist who competed on the University of New Hampshire Cycling Team, helping the team capture both Eastern and national collegiate titles in 1985.1
To honor his legacy, David’s family—parents Cal and Maureen and brother Wayne—established the David Barrows Adventure Fund with the express purpose of supporting adventure-style programs for children and youth. Over the years, the fund has provided scholarships and supported programs such as ropes courses, summer adventure camps, outdoor recreation, and youth athletic initiatives across the Seacoast.
What This Grant Will Support
With $2,000, SEED can underwrite innovative classroom projects that spark exploration and problem-solving. For example, the grant will make possible hands-on building with robotics kits, coding activities using engineering sets, immersive field trips to local science centers, and collaborative makerspace projects where students design and prototype creative solutions. These opportunities help students experiment, invent, and apply knowledge—the very spirit of adventure the Barrows family champions.
“We’re incredibly grateful to Wayne Barrows and the David Barrows Adventure Fund for investing in Dover’s classrooms. This kind of community partnership propels teachers’ best ideas and gives students the chance to learn by doing.”
